The latest survey by the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago says that Americans want more government spending on education and health care.

Here is the ranking with their overall score (support – opposition):

1. Education (+68.7)
2. Health (+66.4)
3. Assistance to the poor (+62.0)
4. Environment (+61.9)
5. Social security (+59.2)
6. Drug addition (+54.8)
7. Halting crime (+54.6)

I am sure that the scores would not be so high if you asked respondents whether they would want the government to raise their taxes to spend more in these areas.
