JLF friend Bob Smith writes here about an amazing proposal for a Humanities and Fine Arts Center in Wilmington for Cape Fear Community College. Bob asks the right questions: why does a community college need such a building; won’t this just prove to be another one of those boondoggles sold to taxpayers on the phony grounds that it’s an investment; and why does a community college need a director of marketing?

A few months ago, JLF hosted professor Heywood Sanders who talked about the follies of convention centers. He spent considerable time on the absurdity of Wilmington’s convention center. If Cape Fear really needs space on occasion, it could no doubt be found there.
