Remembering Stan Kowalewski’s problems while he was basketball coach at Northern Guilford High School, I read with interest and a bit of curiosity about how was spending millions of his own money to build a new athletic center at Oak Ridge Military Academy, where he’s now coaching.
Well, it turns out Kowalewski is in trouble with the SEC, accused of “defrauding investors in two hedge funds by secretly diverting millions of dollars.”
Kowalewski’s contract with Northern Guilford High School was not renewed after the Nighthawks were stripped of their 2009 state title for using ineligible players. Allegations of financial also dogged Kowalewski at Northern as investigators questioned his spending thousands on personal expenses from the school’s basketball account.
