She is able-bodied but won’t hold a job to support herself. This story about Orange County nomad Janet Bratter is a revealing look at how some people shamelessly scam others. It makes me angry at her arrogance, and sad that for years people have wasted time and money that could have helped others who truly are in need. Meantime, Ms. Bratter reveals her intention to keep up the game. According to the story:
Bratter has worked part-time jobs in a call center, a grocery store, a fitness center and on campus at UNC-Chapel Hill, but she’d rather rely on good will and generosity.
“Maybe I’m just a starry-eyed optimist,” she said, sitting outside her camper in Carrboro on a recent afternoon. “I’m here looking for another sponsor, shall we say.”
