Could printing David Brooks’ op-ed call for do-over in the Duke rape case be the start of fresh look at the case by the Uptown paper of record? Let’s hope so.
It never made any sense for Charlotte’s daily to run to Durham to breathlessly cover this case. It made even less sense to accept, uncritically, the tenuous claims that were being advanced about the events of the evening of March 13. And it was journalistic malpractice to allow the Duke case to squeeze out other, more salient news stories.
We are at the point now where the whole world except Matt Nifong knows there is no real case to be made against the Duke lax players. The folks down on Tryon Street should run a “We Were Wrong” and move on.
