Cooney says he wants to start at the end. Shows a photo of Crystal Gail Mangum taken 20 to 30 minutes after she claims to have been raped and beaten. Shows a photo of her on the porch laughing and holding Dave Evans’ shaving kit. She also had just called to check her phone messages.

Urges committee to read Attorney General Roy Cooper’s report, if they haven’t already. Stresses Cooper’s declaration that they were innocent. Cites A/G’s report’s conclusion that Mangum’s contradictory statements proved the three accused could not have done what they were charged with. Points out that Mangum said the party photos were altered, that Duke paid people to change their stories, the fact that Mangum couldn’t recognize Officer Sutton, with whom she’d spent several hours.

Says Himan put it best in State Bar proceeding when on May 8 when he said he thought Mangum “was not telling the truth about anything,” that she would make up other stories to try to deal with inconsistencies when they were pointed out to her.

Cooney: Did these men get charged because Nifong overstepped or because the police investigation was deficient?
