From today’s State Board of Education (SBE) meeting:

1) The SBE voted to suspend the graduation project requirement for one year. As I have mentioned in previous LR posts, Democrats in the General Assembly appear to be ready to scrap the graduation project requirement until the state conducts an evaluation of the costs and benefits of the requirement. Education CEO (or whatever he’s called) Bill Harrison said that he could not understand why there is opposition to the requirement, which, according to Harrison, would help kids be more 21st century something or other.

2) On the charter school front, there are 16 applications for three available slots. Republicans in the General Assembly would like to raise or lift the cap on charter schools, following the President’s charge (of course), but Democrats appear to be defiant on the matter.

3) June Atkinson still hasn’t confirmed me as a friend on Facebook.
