The N.C. Court of Appeals has reversed a trial court ruling that would have allowed a State Fair midway vendor to sue Meg Scott Phipps and some of the other parties involved in the shenanigans that sent her to prison.

Strates Shows — which had run the midway for years under former N.C. Agriculture Commissioner Jim Graham — lost the midway contract once Graham’s successor — Phipps — put that contract out for bids.

The legal battle that eventually sent Phipps to prison revealed illegal activity involved with the awarding of the midway contract.

But today’s appellate ruling would not allow Strates to pursue legal claims against Phipps, some of her former employees, or the competitors who won that dubious contract.
