North Carolina is hardly unique in questioning the folly of its renewable energy portfolio standards mandates before the costs become prohibitively expensive. More states are rethinking their renewable mandates, as reported by the American Energy Alliance. They include:

  • West Virginia became the first state in the country to repeal an enacted REPS. The repeal bill passed unanimously in the Senate and 95-4 in the House.
  • Ohio froze its RPS last year and leaders are holding hearings on the prospect of full repeal.
  • Kansas just became the second state to repeal an enacted REPS
  • Bills to repeal or revise REPS mandates have already passed one chamber in Texas, New Mexico and Colorado.
