As Sen. Janet Cowell leads in the Democratic race for the open State Treasurer’s office, it looks as if Josh Stein is on his way to win the Democratic race to replace Cowell.
With 85 percent of precincts reporting, Stein leads Jack Nichols, 49 percent to 40 percent (a 3,000-vote margin).
The winner in this N.C. Senate District 16 primary will face a Republican in November.
