Seriiously, McCain is a great guy, but never the brightest bulb on the tree. I don’t know if you recall his Star Wars rant when he ran against Bush in 2000, but he is prone to some pretty wacky statements. In context he also said that the Dems would never pick a “pro-life, free-market” kind of guy.

The DNC would never consider such a choice anyway. Howard Stern would be a far more likely candidate than McCain. If you accept McCain’s first statement about considering the VP slot, then you have to wonder why he’s stumping for Bush (in the later part of the interview). If you believe any part of that interview, you have to ask yourself where McCain really stands on anything.
