The Smoky Mountain News wrote about state legislation requiring a commission to make new health guidelines for childcare centers. To summarize the article:

Juice is bad for you. It makes you obese. It contains sugars (not acids), unlike Twinkies and Coke, that rot your teeth. Kool-Aid is juice.

X% of fat kids this, and Y% of chubby cherubim that. That will cost society $A and $B per pound on average. Obesity is an epidemic, so don’t breathe around fat people.

Children are fed breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack, but it’s the sugar in the juice that makes them fat. Obesity is also caused by children of diverse backgrounds not being offered diverse foods with which they are comfortable.

If you don’t have to work, you may attend a listening session to provide input for the new guidelines between 9:00 and 12:30, October 18, at the Buncombe County School Board offices on Bingham Road. If you have to work, you may email [email protected].
