The Graham County sheriff’s office was destroyed by arson last May. The county collected over $200,000 from the insurance company, but commissioners weren’t anxious to spend it on rebuilding the old office. Commissioners Raymond Williams and Billy Holder wanted to do the obvious thing, but they were outvoted.

The Soil and Water Conservation Office wants some space in the new building. So does the NC Agricultural Extension. Offices of the local Ag Extension were housed in the same building as the former sheriff’s office. However, if $25,000 could be spent reinforcing the building to accommodate a second floor, a $46,000 Golden LEAF grant might pay for a “learning kitchen.”
