“Now is not the time to abandon fiscal discipline. We can’t overspend, over-tax or over-borrow.”
Sen. Phil Berger was ready with a comeback:
Berger, the Senate Republican leader, said he was somewhat encouraged by that line.
” But by that point my adding machine had blown up from all the new programs and spending he had mentioned earlier on,” Berger said.
Like providing financial help for children in families earning $40,000 to $60,000 annually, as the N&R print edition reports? Wait a minute. I don’t want to say too much about my financial state, but the day I earn $60k will be the day I strike it rich.
