According to the report released by the College Board, 18.5 percent of North Carolina’s public high school class of 2007 earned a 3 or higher on one or more AP Exams during high school. This compares to 15.2 percent for the nation.

North Carolina also has a much higher participation rate (31.9 percent) than the national average (24.9 percent).

Without a doubt, these are positive findings. But remember, these students – the top 20 to 25 percent – are not the ones to worry about.
