The fact that this country was created, politically speaking, with a Constitution defining limits of powers and checks and balances is now being cast as some kind of Republican attitude problem. An article in the Hendersonville Times-News addressed the president’s “vow to act on his own if lawmakers won’t help him” with the headline:
Republicans Say Obama Can’t Do Much without Them
It looks like the Republicans are respecting the law of the land, but I’m sure referring to the old rag of a Constitution is merely a convenient tool for when your side is the underdog. Hey! It’s still working. At least, as somebody pointed out earlier, the president is still upholding that part of the Constitution that says he is to provide a State of the Union address.
