Today’s edition of Investor’s Business Daily comments on Representative Sue Myrick’s (R-N.C.) idea to let coastal states decide whether drilling is environmentally risky. As a member of the House Energy and Commerce panel, Myrick has introduced a bill–the Deep Energy Resources Act–that would allow states to opt out of the Interior Department’s offshore-drilling restriction, should the state decide that drilling is safe and in its best interest. As IBD notes, the U.S. government “estimates that 50% of our undiscovered oil lies offshore. It’s time to let states go after it.”
