Today is Small Business Saturday. Everybody is supposed to buy something from a small business today. The objective is to create jobs and wealth. Never mind any broken-windows philosophy about a spike in profits from accelerated purchases today being compensated by a relative lull in the future. Or even that if somebody spends money in your store and you spend money in theirs, no real value is created. The point is, people are buying more from large businesses than certain people want. A holiday will encourage people to spend more on things they don’t exactly want.
