As of last week, Democratic 1st District U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield had no plans to schedule a town hall meeting or other in-person public forum with constituents over the August recess. That’s now changed, reports the Rocky Mount Telegram:

The health care reform-focused town hall meeting will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Parker Middle School. The public is invited to attend, [spokesman Ken] Willis said.

After meeting with several constituents and touring a few area medical facilities last week, Butterfield said people seem to have a great number of questions about the reform proposals. He said he wanted an opportunity to counter the misinformation circulating about the legislation.

Media reports like the Carolina Journal exclusive from Thursday cited above and this story from Friday’s News & Observer may have something to do with the congressman’s change of heart as well. Whatever prodded Butterfield to reconsider hosting town halls, the important thing is, he has.
