A. Barton Hinkle of the Richmond Times-Dispatch has a superb column on the bipartisan problem of corporate welfare.

Hinkle’s concluding line is great: A government big enough to do everything you want is also big enough to do everything you don’t.

That’s why the Founders envisioned a government that had no power to do things for people, but only protected their freedom to do things for themselves.
