When I lived near Paris in the ’60s there was a walled villa just down the road from our apartment in Marly-le-Roi. It was the home of Brigitte Bardot, or so I was told nearly every day by our French bus driver, who blew a kiss every time we passed. Whenever I went by that house I hoped for a glimpse of the original sex kitten. I never got one.

When you look at the photo with this story, there’s no way of understanding the impact she had in the late l950s. But one look at the photo with this post on Power Line and you immediately understand what all the fuss was about.

She is now on trial in France for fanning discrimination and inciting anti-Muslim hatred, as if Muslims themselves haven’t been doing that well enough on their own. Her offense? She wrote a letter to then-Interior Minister (now-President) Nicolas Sarkozy saying that Muslims were ruining France. There are millions of French citizens who agree with that, and possibly a lot of Germans, Brits and Italians who feel the same way.
