Paul Chesser’s commentary on the politics of President Bush’s Supreme Court picks appeared twice this week in The American Spectator. On Monday, Chesser wrote about the unfortunate ramifications for evangelical Christians due to early and entrenched support of Harriet Miers’ nomination despite serious, credible concerns over her qualifications and unknown judicial philosophy. “The fallout,” he wrote, “ is that those Christians are, at least for now, perceived publicly as one-noters with little depth – even among their other conservative friends.” On Friday, Chesser’s piece on the nomination of Samuel Alito touched on the ideological and racial biases behind criticism by liberals that O’Connor’s seat should be filled by a woman or a Hispanic.
