So has CMPD turned crackhead on us? Who in their right mind would try to get money out of CMS?

CMPD says it needs $1m. more for school resource officers. CMS, of course, says no way, no how.

For months there have been questions about CMPD’s ability to stay within its budget. I think it is safe to say those questions have been answered by WSOC:

Maj. Vicki Foster said that the police department’s contract calls for the schools to pay $2.375 million for resource officers next year, but the year after that CMPD is asking schools to pay $3.6 million.

“We’re also over budget, like most agencies now, and we’re looking at ways to save money, so it’s just an option,” Foster said.

Note that Foster is part of Chief Rodney Monroe’s inner circle, so the idea of going to CMS to make up for a budget shortfall absolutely comes from the top.
