Surry County Board of Commissioners last night unanimously passed a resolution supporting Amendment One:

Commissioner Paul Johnson, who represents the county’s East District, said the commissioners thought they should publicly support the amendment.

….Johnson said he does not buy the opposition’s arguments.

“I know (other cities) passed resolutions against (the amendment), based on theory that it would discourage business and industry from coming in, and I think that’s totally absurd,” Johnson said. Most of, I think, the companies I’ve worked for in my life would rather have people of moral fiber and stable society, rather than people who are over the wall.”

Meanwhile, the Winston-Salem City Council postponed its debate over a resolution opposing Amendment One. When all the talking and negotiating is done, the council could possibly bring the resolution to a vote the night before the May 8 primary.
