The Wee People in Henderson County are getting too big for their britches. A proposed outdoor festival ordinance upset people like the owners of Deerfields. They hired an attorney to explain how the business put 891 acres in a conservation easement. Since they can’t build on it, they rent it for events like weddings and parties. The lease agreements already require security, emergency services, sanitation, and other measures to abate public nuisances. The owners maintain the property with rental income and would surely have to sell it would a proposal to require “burdensome site plans, unreasonable restrictions on noise, and police intrusion on private events” be approved. Hearing complaints, the planning board tabled consideration.
