Interesting perspective from Van Jewell Kantor on death of her brother, Emile Williams. Remember Williams was the guy who led Greensboro police officer W.M. Symmes on a high-speed chase after a theft at Four Seasons Town Center. After he crashed his car on Interstate 40, Williams tried to drive off Symes’ vehicle, dragging Symes along the road before Symes shot twice in the neck and temple.

Here’s the way Kantor see things, in light of Symes being cleared by Guilford District Attorney Doug Henderson:

Van Jewell Kantor, Williams’ oldest sister, said that because Symmes jumped onto the Tahoe as Williams tried to drive away, the officer put himself into harm’s way. Her brother was unarmed and trying to get away, not hurt the police officer, she said.

“The family looks at this as the police officer’s life was not in danger, and he chose to put his life in danger,” Kantor said. “To my family, this is murder.”

“We’re going to do whatever we have to do to vindicate our brother,” she said.

Based on letters to the editor in the N&R, the public doesn’t see it that way.
