If you’ve ever heard that someone needs to fix or jumpstart our economy ? or that the economy is overheating ? you’ve heard an example of a bad metaphor.

That’s the analysis from Max Borders, executive editor of the Free to Choose Network. Borders says inappropriate metaphors hurt our understanding of society and the economy. He’s written this paper on the topic, and he explored the theme during today’s meeting of the John Locke Foundation’s Shaftesbury Society.
