Mark Martin is the former 28th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina. He is the only active member of the North Carolina judiciary with experience on the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, and the Superior Court. Martin was the youngest Associate Justice in state history when he joined the Supreme Court in 1999.

Former Chief Justice Martin currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Conference of Chief Justices and as Chair of its Professionalism and Competence of the Bar Committee. He recently served as Chair of the ABA Judicial Division and has served in leadership roles within the Appellate Judges Conference and the Appellate Judges Education Institute. He has taught law courses at the University of North Carolina, Duke University, and North Carolina Central University.

He holds degrees from Western Carolina University, the University of North Carolina School of Law, and the University of Virginia School of Law.
