Alamance-Burlington Schools Interim Superintendent Del Burns has a presented a plan to the school board that will downsize the central office. Note the ‘interim’ before Burns’ title; he’s making way for new superintendent Lillie Cox in July and thus won’t feel the political heat from his fellow educrats.

Down I 40/85, Guilford County school board chairman Alan Duncan sticks up for administrators during a budget session with county commissioners:

The commissioners suggested the school system is top-heavy with administrators with large salaries. Duncan defended the administrators, saying Guilford County isn’t dramatically out of line with the state average for numbers of administrative positions. He said in order to attract the best qualified candidates for the positions, the system has to offer competitive salaries.

Commissioner Kirk Perkins said he believes the school administrators play a vital role, though most aren’t hands-on with students in the classroom.

“I don’t think I’d want to fly on an airline that just has pilots,” Perkins said. “You need those people you don’t see.”

Duncan added ” the state is getting to a point where it’s undermining public education not just in this county but in counties across the state.”
