As 26 counties across the state consider raising taxes by a November referendum, the governor’s office continues to give away money to targeted companies and requires the local governments to do the same. See our Regional Reports for a county by county analysis.

In an announcement released on Friday, West Pharmaceutical Services Inc., a company already located in Kinston, will get $300,000 from the One NC Fund, (controlled by the governor and funded by NC taxpayers) and another $300,000 from Lenoir County and the City of Kinston.

Lenoir County voters will vote on a quarter cent sales tax increase next week. What will the revenue be used for? Clearly, at least part of it, will go to targeted companies for incentives – courtesy of the taxpayers.
