Tax reform impact, Medicaid testimony, school lunch rules, and other items of interest

The Fayetteville Observer interviewed John Locke Foundation Vice President for Research and Resident Scholar Roy Cordato for an article about the impact of new state tax reforms. Cordato also released a new Spotlight report showing that North Carolina’s 2013 tax reform plan will benefit
households in every income group. The News & Observer‘s “Under the Dome” blog cited Cordato’s report, as did the News & Record‘s “Off The Record” blog. NCPoliticalNews.com promoted Cordato’s work. Cordato will discuss his report’s key
findings this afternoon during an appearance with Pete Kaliner on WWNC
Radio.

The state’s Medicaid Reform Advisory Group heard testimony this week about the benefits of a consumer-driven approach to fixing the troubled federal-state health care program. JLF Health and Human Services Policy Analyst Katherine Restrepo spoke to the group during its latest public hearing.

The Heartland Institute’s Budget & Tax News quoted Director of Research and Education Studies Terry Stoops in an article about federal school lunch regulations. Stoops shared his concerns about Common Core public school standards during a speech to the Holly Springs Rotary Club.

The Mooresville Tribune mentioned Director of Education Outreach Lindalyn Kakadelis‘ recent speech to the Legacy 22:6 Home School Support Group about Common Core’s impact on homeschooling. The Clemmons Courier promoted Becki Gray’s upcoming speech on N.C. tax changes for the Forsyth County Republican Women.

Gray discussed North Carolina’s economic recovery during a conversation with Henry Hinton on WTIB Radio. Gray continues twice-weekly politics and public policy updates on WTSB Radio.

The N.C. Spin website promoted Gray’s “Locker Room” blog entry on Greensboro’s efforts to use targeted tax incentives to lure a Boeing plant to the area. Time Warner Cable News’ “Capital Tonight” program interviewed Director of Communications Mitch Kokai about N.C. Department of Health and Human Services controversies and the latest presidential visit to North Carolina. Kokai discussed the week’s top state government news with Curtis Wright on WMYT Radio.
