A map published by the Tax Foundation puts North Carolina in the nation’s top 10 in excise taxes assessed to beer.

North Carolinians pay 62 cents per gallon of beer, putting the Tar Heel State ninth in the nation.

Beer drinkers can be glad they don’t live in neighboring Tennessee, where the per-gallon excise tax is $1.17. Other states with a higher tax than North Carolina, in order are, Alaska, Alabama, Georgia, Hawaii, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Washington. Minnesota rounds out the top 10.

Wyoming is the state with the lowest excise tax – 2 cents per gallon.
