Guilford County Board of Education member Garth Hebert doesn’t think much of Community Foundation president Walker Sanders’ plan to relocate GCS headquarters into a ‘mixed-use development’ on the corner of Elm and Lee Streets:

Hebert attacked Sanders for bringing the proposal to the school board in what he said was a nebulous form, and the school board for listening to what he said was a vague proposal in closed session – in terms that didn’t leave Sanders much room for hope for a change of heart.

“I chewed the guy out,” Hebert said. “I said, ‘You haven’t provided me with anything of substance.’ There’s nothing to talk about. It’s a pipe dream, that’s all it is. It’s such a shocking absurdity. It’s hogwash and malarkey. It was the most pitiful presentation I have seen. A high-schooler could have done better.”

Hebert is a mysterious figure on the school board. I like his ideas, but his public demeanor needs a little work. If he were to make such comments at a school board meeting, they wouldn’t nearly come across as forceful and authroitative as they do in print.
