North Carolina assigns school performance grades to all public schools.  The grades are based on student achievement (80 percent of total grade) and growth (20 percent of total grade).

In the past, the N.C. Department of Public Instruction published comparisons of district and charter grade distributions, but they discontinued the practice two years ago.

My preliminary tally is below.  It includes overall school performance grades for all district, charter, lab, and regional schools in North Carolina.  Once again, there are higher percentages of charter schools with A and B grades compared to districts.  On the other hand, there is a higher percentage of charter schools at the other end of the grading scale.
