This gem comes from Durham Deputy Police Chief Ron Hodge, who briefed the city council on the latest Durham crime stats. From the News & Observer (emphasis is mine):
Firearms are the weapon most often used in aggravated assaults. “Thank goodness our fellas [criminals] can’t shoot too well,” Hodge said; otherwise, some of the assaults would have been homicides.
I suspect Hodge wishes he could take that one back. As my police officer nephew explains it, sometimes cops say things with a bit too much candor.
