Corporate gifting is such the pet peeve. It would be so much nicer to pass savings on to customers. Today, I attended a training session for which the materials were provided by an organization that has a reputation for gouging customers to cover losses. Then, this evening, it was announced that Duke Energy was going to guarantee a $10 million line of credit for the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. Fifth Third Bank is providing the line of credit, but the bank will first have to repay its TARP bailout.

The line of credit is considered by the Democrats to be “just security.” Analysts argue the curried favor purchased with “just security” is a good deal for Duke. Republicans have not requested a line of credit from anybody for their convention.
