My very thought when reading about the Greensboro City Council’s plan to offer incentives to downtown property owners to fix up their rundown buildings:

Councilman Tony Wilkins wondered whether the program sends the wrong message.

“What do we say to the people who have kept their buildings up like they should? Are we rewarding bad behavior with these grants?” he asked.

Meanwhile, fellow council member Zack Matheny says he’s greasing the wheels in his “official capacity as a city council person to guide the process and make it as smooth a development as possible and make sure that it comes to fruition.”

No mention of Downtown Greensboro Inc. anywhere in the article.
