Rep. Pricey Harrison and Sen. Katie Dorsett have each filed bills to raise the city tax on vehicles to $16. Why? You guessed it —- to fund the city’s public transportation system. Anything with Harrison’s name on is eco-related.

Harrison says the tax increase is “a little bit more fair of a funding mechanism than raising a sales tax.” If we’re talking about fair, let me remind our representative that a sales tax has been put to a vote here in Guilford County and it failed miserably. Evidently Harrison doesn’t think Greensboro residents —most of whom drive — should get to vote on whether or not they subsidize the mostly-empty city buses they see cruising around town.

I also like the N&R photo accompanying the story — a not-so-subtle reminder that Pricey is just trying to save us from the horrible scourge of traffic congestion.
