Might be the future of the Charlotte Bobjohnsons.

The WNBA’s Houston Comets are folding. Big deal you say — Charlotte’s Sting went to the WNBA graveyard with nary an obit. Ah, but as I pointed out on Rick Bonnell’s blog the other day — why I do not know, the man chronically ducks any serious thinking on the Bobcats operations or future — the key is that the owner of the Comets simply walked away.

As such contraction, not relocation, is the real threat to the NBA in the QC. What if Bob Johnson just tapped out and said, “I’m done.” The NBA would fold the franchise and hold a dispersal draft, just like the WNBA. The city cannot force the NBA to lose money in Charlotte.

Pam Syfert and her legal beagles never considered that possibility.
