North Carolina could only manage to get one bar on Esquire magazine’s list of America’s best bars. Even North Dakota got one bar. Surely we have more good bars than Fargo Land.

The Thomas Street Tavern in Charlotte is, I’m sure, a nice place to imbibe. But I just have to think that the James Joyce or the Federal in Durham’s Brightleaf District could give it a run for its money.

I don’t give this list much credence, though. How could any list of Alabama bars not have the Pink Pony Pub in Gulf Shores on it, or not have Squeaky’s Tip Top Tavern in Augusta on the Georgia list.
