While we’re on the subject of editorial endorsements, today’s Winston-Salem Journal lead editorial perfectly illustrates why I was so bewitched and bewildered when they endorsed McCain.
The Journal applauds the return of Dave Plyler to the Forsyth County Board of Commssioners, considering the fact that the “moderate Republican” will help make the board more “progressive.” And, according to the Journal, “board needs to get more progressive in economic development, in preserving the environment and in tackling problems of health care.”
For a definition of “progressive,” see Thomas Sowell’s column in today’s N&R:
By the end of the 20th century, “liberals” had again discredited themselves, to the point where they went back to calling themselves “progressives” to escape their past, much as people do when they declare bankruptcy.
Like I said, the Journal doesn’t see a government program it doesn’t like. I don’t know what they were smoking when they decided they were for “limited government intrusion in our lives.”
