As expected, we’ve gotten inevitable CMS climb-down from the its no harm-no foul walkout policy. CMS has sent a letter home to parents warning that students who walk out of class on Monday “could face suspension.” This is stronger than the previous unexcused absence backstop, but still short of where some CMS high school principals were a month ago on the issue.
Back before the April 20 rash of student walkouts some principals threatened 3-day suspensions only to be undercut by the CMS unexcused absence standard. In other words, on yet another front, the Ed Center is a day late and day short.
Moreover, the Ed Center remains fixed on the notion that every issue, discipline especially, needs a district-wide policy as handed down from the experts at the Ed Center. This is because if the experts at the Ed Center did not issue district-wide policies they would have absolutely nothing to do.
Challenge to Peter Gorman: Tell 30 percent of the Ed Center staff who never see a student to stay home for a month. See if anyone notices.
