I have previously extolled the columns of Bruce Bartlett here and again I find that I have strong reason to do so. In this article from National Review Online today, he makes a good case that the nation was better off fiscally with gridlock in Washington. His key line is, “The problem is that getting things done is usually a bad idea.” In Washington, at least.
The sad thing is that a GOP controlled Congress enlarges the welfare state rather than even trying to take down any of the legislative blunders of the New Deal or the Great Society.
