Ironically enough, The Bridges of Madison County was on TCM last night. I don’t care if you are Clint Eastwood, you just don’t hang out in a guy’s house and carry on with his wife.
So now comes a report that Guilford County’s bridges are getting low marks from a AAA Carolinas study:
The study shows the state needs to allot more money to bridge maintenance and replacement, said Sarah Davis, of AAA Carolinas.
The state Department of Transportation estimates it needs $200 million annually to do the job right, but got $55 million this fiscal year, Davis said. “A lot of highway funding gets sucked out to go into the general budget .” Davis said.
Again, I’ll refer to comments made by NCDOT board member Nancy Dunn at the recent HOT presentation:
“Our system for funding transportation is broken. There has not been a great job of cash management at DOT,” she said.
