Citizen Larry Price scrutinized recreation department records for the Buckeye Recreational Center in the Town of Beech Mountain, and couldn’t account for $140,000. His investigation was merely an attempt to identify cost-cutting measures. The facility consumes 15% of the town’s general fund.

Price was brushed off as a loony when he asked to make a presentation to the town council, so he asked the police to investigate. Nobody in government thinks there was any wrongdoing. Town Manager Randy Feierabend said he thinks Price merely miscounted family discounts. The investigation continues.
