We have a new article about the Koch Brothers’ (That’s a proper noun, isn’t it?) attempt to fund a free enterprise center at Western Carolina University. A committee of the board of trustees unanimously recommended that the full board consider acceptance. That means money talks, even if – horror of horrors – it comes from people who are good at making it and for an effort to share their strategies. Secondly, the article states that faculty and staff are still concerned that the Kochs’ libertarian beliefs about free enterprise would compromise academic freedom and taint the university’s reputation. The former fear surely involves a new reverse-definition I missed, as in “academic freedom” means tyrannical intolerance for exploring ideas.
