Looking around the political landscape it seems pretty clear that things may break John Edwards’ way in 2008. Yeech.

Mr. Blow-Dried Class Warfare has not escaped the attention of others, either. Greg Pierce of The Washington Times picks Edwards as his way too early selection to be the Democratic nominee for president. Here’s why:

The far left wing of the Democratic Party is unhappy with Hillary for not opposing the war in Iraq. And Democratic pragmatists fear that Mrs. Clinton is carrying too much baggage and might be unelectable.

Edwards will appeal to the leftists with his staunch opposition to the war and ’60s-style liberalism (a new War on Poverty). Because Mr. Edwards is handsome, well-spoken and, most important, a Southerner, Democratic pragmatists may see him as just what the party needs to recapture the White House.

Throw in the fact that Mr. Edwards is well-known in Iowa and New Hampshire because of his run for president in 2004 (and was leading in a recent Iowa poll) and it’s hard to dismiss Mr. Edward’s chances.

And just who does Pierce think Edwards will face? Mitt Romney.
