Evidently, one of the lines of attack against Judge Roberts will be that he doesn’t fully share the constitutional views, fuzzy though they may be, of the liberals on the Judiciary Committee. Rich Lowry discusses the issue here.
The trouble with the liberal position is that it’s utterly incoherent. The right of privacy is hauled out to protect only things they favor. Is it an invasion of privacy when a city government decides to seize your home so it can have a bigger tax base? No. Is it an invasion of privacy to compel people to disclose personal information on a census form or Form 1040? No. Why not? “Because we want the government to have those powers.”
