Speaking of renewable energy mandates, that’s just one of the ideas North Carolina is pursuing in its quest to limit global warming. Supporters of efforts to impact climate change contend the state will gain thousands and jobs and benefit from a positive economic impact. But the Locke Foundation commissioned research from Boston’s Beacon Hill Institute that shows the state would likely lose 33,000 jobs and suffer a $4.5 billion hit to its Gross State Product by 2011, even if it adopts only a fraction of the policy proposals under consideration now. Beacon Hill Institute director David Tuerck presented the data this week to the N.C. Legislative Commission on Global Climate Change. The North Carolina News Network used Tuerck’s testimony for its statewide newscasts, while Tuerck also appeared Thursday morning on WPTF Radio’s morning show.
