Interventionist legislation such as that of the Maryland legislature designed to punish Wal Mart for not running its business the way the politicians think it should always has side-effects. One side effect in that state will be that Wal Mart probably won’t expand in some of the poorest areas of the state. Tough luck for the people who would have liked to get the jobs Wal Mart would have offered had it not been for the eagerness of union-bought politicians to penalize the company.
